Introduction

Equestrian Tourism is an emerging sector in Companhia das Lezírias.

This project is structured along two major strands of development: horse riding at CL with a guide and learning and leisure activities.

The horse rides range from 2-hour short trails to full day or several days’ riding experiences, the latter outside the Companhia das Lezírias.

Learning will include introduction to horse riding, lunge training, working closely with schools at various riding levels and with community recreation facilities.

Apart from these activities, others are still being developed, such as trails on horse-driven carriages, livery facilities and horse lodging in paddocks.

Horse rides at the Companhia das Lezírias take place in the moorlands, which includes an 11 thousand hectares country course, of which about 6,500 is taken up with cork-trees.

Here, visitors will discover the charming landscapes across an unusual number of different trails, due to the substantial size of the land. Horse riders benefit also from the extremely beautiful Classified Area in which the Companhia das Lezírias is set, with an incredible biodiversity, in particular the many bird species and the many farming and forestry activities.
