Companhia das Lezírias and “Parques de Sintra – Monte da Lua” established a partnership to develop equestrian tourism for those wishing to combine the love for horseback riding with unique heritage, cultural and landscape sites.
Trails are excellent for horseback riding and the landscape is overwhelming. Visitors can choose packages of variable duration, ranging from a week-end to a week, and are invited to follow the footsteps of the kings of Portugal along a triangle linking Companhia das Lezírias (once known as Coutada Real - a royal hunting reserve), Tapada Real de Mafra (a privilege space for recreation and hunting enjoyed by the Portuguese monarchs) and the historical parks of Sintra (former summer resorts and leisure destination of the royal family).
There are three distinct landscapes marked by history to be explored within a radius of less than 100 kilometres, allowing the visitors to enjoy several experiences on horseback. Further to being crossed by kings and queens, these three natural and privileged landscapes have in common the fact that they lie close to important cultural centers in the outskirts of Lisbon, which can be discovered during the moments of rest between rides.
Accommodation is always done in cosy and family-like facilities. At Companhia das Lezírias, the visitor will be lodged in a bungalow resort; in Tapada de Mafra, accommodation is in King Carlos' cottage, and in Sintra visitors will be lodged in rural farms on the hills.
